Model Auditions

The Birth of a New Generation ... of ridiculously good looking people.

Midterm season, all nighters are pulled, chapters are crammed, and tears are probably shed. However, there is a silver lining in the midst of all the madness  - it was time for model castings. Last Sunday, over 170 students came to the Mustang Lounge for a chance to become a model for the 15th annual CAISA Fashion Show. A mix of veterans and fresh faces strutted through the door , making for an exciting day for both models and executives.

The CFS executives, dressed impeccably chic in all-black attire, were spread out between five stations in the lounge - check-in/check-out, choreography, runway, photography, and interviews. Choreographers lead the potential models to the front of the room and divided them up into two sections for two different dance routines. After the dance component, auditioners moved on to the runway where they were observed by notepad-wielding execs. The next station was the photography station, where models took a profile picture followed by two poses. The final station was the interviews.

Spotted! Some notable observations during the eventful Sunday include:

1) A pair of fabulous Jeffrey Campell studded heels. Seriously, it should be considered a superpower to be able to dance in those five-inchers.

2) Executives dancing, runway walking, and posing for the camera (remember to smize!) between intervals.

3) PR girls posing with shirtless models! (I may or may not be the one with my hand on an eight-pack - GW)

All in all, last Sunday was definitely a day filled with fun, fashion, and infinite fierceness.

Spring and Summer 2012 Fashion Week

Spring and Summer 2012 Fashion Week saw waistlines go up and hemlines go down.  High waisted slouchy trousers and the continuation of the maxi trend dominated the runway.  Layering was also brought to life throwing on jackets over cardigans and blouses.  Many of the looks can easily be duplicated, just pair a slouchy knit with a short patterned mini skirt, or try colour blocking with sorbet colours like mandarin orange, lilac, pale yellow, or light blue.  Here are some of my favourite looks for next season:

Thakoon
Making the adjustment to spring and summer easier by warming up some autumn tones.  Love that dark accented lapel.

Burberry
Redesigning the trench coat once again and how covetable is this?  It may have been harder to pull off the edgy studded and spiked trench coat but this gorgeous piece is totally wearable.

Prada
A silk floral bodysuit is given new dimension with the addition of a structured jacket in the same pattern.

Rag and Bone
Similar to the Prada look, Rag and Bone turns a sexy bralette (it's knit, KNIT!) into something a little more street appropriate by throwing on an asymmetrical maxi skirt with a long knit cardigan and a short tweed blazer.  Spring and summer fashion doesn't mean you have to put away your knits and jackets!

Proenza Schouler
Mixing checkered with a caribbean-esque print.  An amazing bustier is made more demure with a high waisted and knee length skirt.  Showing some more skin but also covering some more up- take a little and give a little.

Phillip Lim
Colourblocking with pastel colours!  Crop tops are more versatile by pairing them with a longer top underneath, adding an extra band of colour and giving new meaning to layering.

I know the summer's over and fall's begun but I'm already excited to dress for next season- bring it on!

FOREVER 21 Touches Down in Londontown

We the hottest in the world/
Just touched down in London town
- American Boy - Estelle ft. Kanye West

Yes, it's real. Get excited, London.

I'm pretty sure Kanye wasn't referring to Forever 21 (nor London, Ontario for that matter), but this is pretty darn exciting.

Why? Well, there are 3 reasons. First of all, it's two-storeys. That's right - two whole storeys of trendy, affordable clothing. That's equivalent to the XXI Forever at the corner of Yonge and Dundas in Toronto. However, that XXI Forever is ALWAYS busy and (to me) lacks square footage, even for two floors. From the looks of it, the London Forever 21 looks like it's going to be even bigger (and therefore better).

Secondly, it's basically footsteps to UWO at Masonville Mall. Unlike H&M and Sephora, we don't have to travel 10293810481412 minutes on the 13 (that's exaggerated) to White Oaks.

Thirdly, where else are you going to find your perfect outfit to wear to the CAISA Fashion Show Launch Party without touching your OSAP? I think I have mine already... stay tuned for the deets!

Xoxo,
Jess

Versace x H&M

Iconic? Bold ? Glamourous? This message is for you.
Hopefully you had more success in understanding Donatella than I did. But nonetheless, I love her.

H&M is bringing us yet another budget friendly 'couture' collection - this time with the always fabulous, Donatella Versace.
This collaboration will revisit the fashion house's iconic styles. The women's collection will consist of blacks, prints, studded leathers and everything Versace represents in 40 extraordinary pieces. For the men, the collection focuses on sharp tailoring in a small number of 20.

“I am thrilled to be collaborating with H&M and to have the opportunity of reaching their wide audience. The collection will be quintessential Versace, perfect for H&M and Versace fans everywhere,” says Donatella Versace.

The collection will be released at your participating H&M locations on November 19.
I am booking my train ticket to Toronto as we speak. Will you be joining me to find the-next-love-of-your-life from the Versace x H&M collab? -- What am I saying? Of course you will, its quintessential.

Keep it Caisa-chic!
Ciao.
