Food Diary: London Edition

Everyone loves eating. Gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins, after all –cough-
So being a city girl and all, the food in London was definitely something to get used to. HOWEVER, London has these hidden gems here and there that you just have to find. Here are a few of my picks [& if you guys comment, perhaps I’ll share some more in the future ;)]

BEST-KEPT ON-CAMPUS SECRET: Michael’s Casual Fine Dining
You know where you pick OSAP up at Somerville House in the Great Hall? Located right beside it on the 3rd floor is Michael’s, a REALLY good lunch buffet where you are seated and served, complete with cloth napkins! The buffet is aound the same price as eating at the Wave and is so worth it. My friend and I even indulged in their Creme Brulee, which was amazing!

MOST ‘UNIQUE’ EXPERIENCE: Covent Garden
Since 1845, this marketplace (similar to St. Lawrence Market) is located right in the heart of downtown London on Dundas between Richmond and Talbot Street. It’s a mixing pot of multicultural meals, fresh food, homemade items, etc. They even have seating upstairs:

BEST REZ DINING NIGHT: Chinese New Year
I’m not going to lie – I LOVE Thanksiving dinner and in first year, I went back for seconds (and thirds) to keep in my mini-fridge. HOWEVER, they really outdid themselves on Chinese New Year that it was hands down the most special dinner I’ve had in rez.
First of all, it came in this box:
And inside was some stir-fry chicken, Chow Mein, veggies and ‘Dim Sum:’
[NOTE: I’ve never been to the actual WokBox before. If you guys have, let me know if you recommend it!]

BEST DATE NIGHT: Oscar Taylor’s
Yes, yes. I know they’ve closed down, but I just wanted to share one of the BEST meals I’ve ever had in London. Tuesday was Date Night at Oscar Taylor’s, which included a 3-course sharable meal for you & your HOT DATE:
This flatbread pizza – so delish!

This HUGE platter of Prime Rib with Sweet Potato fries... YUM
And this toffee dessert. I’m not a dessert person so I have no comment :)
Happy eating!

Jess
